New CNRE RDP Policy

New CNRE Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) Policy

In an effort to enhance IT Security at the Desktop CNRE is pushing the following new policy settings to all Windows based computers.

1. Windows Firewall settings to only allow connections from the VT IP address space (128.173.0.0/16, 198.82.0.0/16, & 172.16.0.0/12). Therefore, if you are off campus you will need to launch the VT VPN before initiating your RDP session.

2. The default RDP port (3389) has been remapped to a non-standard port. Please contact the CNREHelpDesk@vt.edu (1-9599) for this new port.  An example of a computer entry in your Remote Desktop tool to gain access to a remote computer with a non-standard port would be:
