CNRE IT

The College of Natural Resources and Environment (CNRE) Information Technology department provides comprehensive IT support through a team of five full-time staff members, serving all CNRE faculty, staff, and students.

The department also manages centralized file storage and backup services for faculty and staff computers through an enterprise storage system known as Minnow. Minnow is housed in the Advanced Infrastructure Systems Building (AISB) at the Corporate Research Center (CRC), with replication in Cassell Coliseum for redundancy. The system provides approximately 56 TB of storage across five distinct shares supporting faculty, staff, and collaborative research needs. Additionally, Minnow utilizes snapshot technology, enabling users to restore previous versions of files for up to approximately one month.

CNRE IT supports four primary computing facilities across the college:

  • The Microcomputer Teaching Laboratory (220 Cheatham Hall), primarily used for undergraduate instruction and coursework
  • The Center for Environmental Applications in Remote Sensing (CEARS) Lab (217 Cheatham Hall), a graduate research-focused facility
  • The GIS Computer Laboratory (101 Wallace Hall), supporting the Geography department
  • The Brooks Computer Laboratory (Brooks Forest Products Center), serving both undergraduate and graduate students in the Sustainable Biomaterials department
